8.3.2. Removal and installation of a windshield

Purify glass inside and outside, clear space around glass.

Remove screen wipers and a slip.

Close a glass cover surface to prevent damages.

Remove a rear-view mirror, a sun-protection guard and upholsteries of forward racks.

In case of need, remove the dashboard.

In case of need, remove an internal upholstery of a roof.

Remove (or cut off) a windshield fringing.

Puncture with a pricker 1 glue seam and pass a royalny wire (fig. 8.34) through an opening.

Cut off a glue seam around a windshield 1 royalny wire of 2 (fig. 8.35). When using a knife 3 for cutting of glue you watch to damaging glass. On the lower part of a windshield cut off glue a wire.

NOTE Try to conduct a royalny wire 2 as it is possible closer to glass to prevent damage of a body and the dashboard (fig. 8.35).

Using a knife 1 straighten a layer the glue 2 which remained on a body 3 so that its thickness made 1–2 mm on all length (fig. 8.36).

NOTE Before use of a knife 1 degrease its alcohol (fig. 8.36).

At reuse of a windshield remove glue 1 from glass, watching to damaging the surface covered with primer 2 (fig. 8.37).

Clear solvent edge of a windshield in the place of putting glue (let's it dry out not less than 10 min.)

To establish a new emphasis 1 (2 pieces) on the lower party of a windshield (fig. 8.38).

To define the adjusting provision of glass 1 in an aperture of a body 2, place glass in an aperture so that the gap between the upper edge of glass 1 and a body 2 was about 5 mm, and gaps between side edges of glass 1 and a body 2 were identical. Then apply tags on glass 1 and a body 2, as shown in the figure 8.39. The top gap can be adjusted change of provision of an emphasis.

Gap on perimeter of a windshield of "a": about 5 mm.

Clear contact surfaces of old glue 4, paint or pure metal.

Accurately apply primer 2 for a body so that it did not get on a surface of the glue seam remaining on a body (fig. 8.40).

NOTE Be verified with the instruction of the manufacturer of primer for ensuring the correct processing and time of drying.

Do not concern surfaces of a body and an old glue seam on which glass will be established.

Establish a new fringing on glass.

Clear the surface of glass which will be pasted to a body by pure fabric. If solvent is used, let's it dry out not less than 10 min.

Area of cleaning of a windshield (distance from the edge of glass or a fringing) 30–50 mm.

Establish a new emphasis 1 on a windshield of 2 (fig. 8.41).

Using a new brush, put enough primer on glass perimeter.

NOTE Be verified with the instruction of the manufacturer for ensuring the correct processing and time of drying.

You do not apply primer on outer side of a surface with a ceramic covering (fig. 8.42).

Do not concern a surface on which primer is applied.

Width of a strip of the primer of "a" applied on a windshield: 15 mm. "b": 22 mm. "with": 6 mm.

Apply primer for a fringing on a fringing surface.

Apply glue 1, as shown in the drawing.

NOTE After putting glue 1 insert glass 2 into an aperture of a body (fig. 8.42) at once.

Use holders suckers for keeping and installation of glass after putting glue 1 (fig. 8.42).

You apply primer within 10 min. to guarantee sufficient adhesion.

Be verified with the instruction of the manufacturer of glue for ensuring the correct processing and time of drying.

Begin with bottom edge of glass 2.

You watch to damaging primer.

Amount of glue and provision of a windshield

Width of "a": about 7 mm.

Height of "b": about 15 mm.

Situation "with": about 11 mm for the first, rear and upper edge.

Situation "d": about 17 mm for bottom edge.
