4.3.1. Adjustment of angles of installation of forward wheels

In operation only the convergence can be adjusted. The possibility of adjustment of disorder of wheels and a tilt angle of a longitudinal axis of turn of a wheel is not provided. Therefore if the corner of disorder or an inclination of a longitudinal axis of turn of wheels differs from norm because of the damages caused by severe road conditions or collision it is necessary to reveal and eliminate damages of a body or a suspension bracket.

Preliminary checks
Complaints to steering and vibrations are not always result of the wrong adjustment of angles of installation of wheels. It is in addition necessary to check probability of withdrawal of the tire owing to wear or a manufacturing defect. Withdrawal represents a car deviation from the rectilinear movement on the road with a small bias and without effort on a steering wheel. Before performance of any adjustment influencing the angles of installation of wheels it is necessary to execute the following checks to guarantee correctness of measurement and adjustments of angles of installation of wheels:
– bring pressure in all tires to norm and be convinced that the protector of all tires has approximately identical wear;
– check a condition of spherical hinges. Check a condition of tips of steering drafts; if there is an excessive gap, eliminate it before adjustment;
– check a beating of wheels and tires;
– check distances from wheels to wheel arches if distances do not meet standard, eliminate discrepancy before adjustment of a convergence;
– check a condition of levers of a suspension bracket;
– check a condition of the stabilizer of cross stability.
It is necessary to take into account additional loadings, like boxes for the tool. If this additional loading usually is present at the car, then it has to remain in the car when performing checks.
Check a condition of the equipment used for check of angles of installation of wheels and follow instructions of the manufacturer.
Irrespective of the equipment used for check of angles of installation of wheels, the car has to settle down on a plain horizontal surface.

NOTE
To prevent possible wrong measurement of a convergence, disorder or tilt angle of a longitudinal axis of turn of a wheel, before check it is necessary to move several times up and down forward and back parts of the car.
