1.6.8. Braking

The brake way grows with increase in speed. When braking from speed, for example, it is 4 times longer than 60 miles/h, than from the speed of 30 miles/h. You brake beforehand, reducing speed gradually.

Fig. 1.169. Braking

Water, getting to brake drums, can reduce brake effect and work of brakes will become unpredictable.
After the movement on water or a sink of a bottom of the car check at a small speed whether lost a brake efficiency. If yes, dry them the repeating snubbing at a small speed of the movement to a complete recovery of efficiency.
The amplifier of a brake the Car is equipped by the amplifier of a brake. Even if the engine decayed, It is possible to stop the car, having pressed and holding a brake pedal by normal effort (it thanks to the reserved energy of vacuum). The reserved energy is spent and decreases by each pressing a brake pedal. Press a pedal smoothly and evenly. Do not swing it.
Even without the reserved energy of vacuum in the brake system It is possible to stop the car, having pressed a pedal with big effort than usually. But in this case the brake way can be longer.

Antiblocking system of brakes of ABS (additional equipment)
The ABS system will help to avoid a drift, regulating electronic - the device brake efforts on wheels. It helps to avoid also loss of controllability when braking on a slippery surface or at emergency brake application.
ABS works automatically, you do not need special technology of braking. Press a pedal without swing. The system works as soon as it defines that wheels begin to be blocked. In operating time of system it is possible to feel the easy movements of a pedal.

NOTE
The ABS system does not work at a speed of movement less than 6 miles/h.

On friable surfaces – the roads covered with gravel, snow, etc. – the brake way of the car equipped with ABS can be a little longer, than at cars with usual system. At the ordinary brake system the blocked wheels plow gravel or snow, shortening these a brake way, and the ABS system minimizes such effect. Consider increase in a brake way, braking on roads with a friable covering.
At some cars with brakes without ABS the brake way can be shorter, than at the car with ABS, and on a usual hard coating.

Fig. 1.170. Indicators of the brake system: 1 – indicator of the ABS system (type 1); 2 – indicator of the ABS system (type 2); 3 – indicator of the brake system

But in both situations of a brake with ABS it is more preferable as allow to keep control over the car. ABS, however, cannot compensate bad road or weather conditions or miscalculations of the driver. Assess a situation correctly and you do not drive the car with greater speed, than road conditions allow.
If on the dashboard during the movement lights up and the ABS 1 or 2 indicator represented above does not die away it is possible that in the ABS system malfunction. Check system at the dealer of Suzuki. At its exit out of operation brakes just function as usual. If the indicator of the ABS 1 or 2 system and the indicator of the brake system 3 on the dashboard constantly burn or light up during the movement, then function of antiblocking and function of regulation of effort of back brakes of the ABS system can be broken. If this is so, then or even on a dry covering at sharp braking back wheels can be blocked on the slippery road that will lead to an uncontrollable drift of the car. Conduct the car carefully, avoiding, whenever possible, sharp braking.

Work of the ABS system
The processor constantly watches frequencies of rotation of wheels and compares their changes when braking. If the frequency of rotation of wheels sharply decreases that happens during the blocking and a skid, the processor will change pressure in wheel brakes several times in a second, preventing blocking of wheels. At launch of the engine after a stop it is possible to hear from it a short characteristic sound of self-examination of system.
When using tires or disks of the wheels differing from specified by the manufacturer in this manual, work of ABS can be broken. It is result of the fact that the system compares not district speeds, but frequencies of rotation of wheels. Replace tires or disks only corresponding both by the size, and on type to indications of specifications.
